DISCOURSE ANALISIS FOR SALES MAN
Making discourse analisyst, there are some components that should be recognize by the Instructor (practisioner of ESP) in order to achieve the targets of the course. Some information about the learners is the most important thing must be recognized by the Instructor. The information will be a determination for the instructor to design an effective material for the learners. Those components are:
1. Instructor should recognize “Why do the learners want to attend the course”
This information is very important to recognize by the teacher to know the reasons or the excuse of the learners attending the course. May the excuse of the learners why they attend the course will be related with what they need in their job. Special for sales man ; they need speaking, listening and reading skill. They need speaking and listening skill in order to communicate with the customer of English speaker, While reading skill is needed to recognize a particular product that come from abroad. Reading skill is also needed to understand or comprehend instruction how to use the product from the booklets or another paper.
2. Background education
This matter is important for teacher to know. It will be easier to distinguish the junior high school from senior high scchool graduate. Tertiary from colege graduate. Here, teacher will be able to determine what suitable material for each graduate. So there will be special material for each graduate.
3. Instructor should know the prior knowledge of the learners
Prior knowledge is knowledge that posses by the leaners at the time before they attend the course. This knowledge is needed by the Instructor to know how well their Basic English in order to facilitate the Instructor to know where to start the material for the learners. It will make the course interesting for the leaner because the material the will get in the course is a new thing for them.
4. Placement test
After knowing their prior knowledgeand their basic of English, it is still neccesary for the Instructor to hold a pre-test. From the pre-test result, it will be recognized where is the proper place for each person. By and large, there are 3 level; elementary, intermediate and advance. Each level has three own part;

5. Recognize the objective of the course
The objective of the course should be related with what skill that want to be achieved by the leaners.This objective course can be negotiated by the employer and the instructor. May be the instructor want his sales to be able to communicate fluent in English and can use English to wait on the English costumer. The employer may also realize that the sales need to have reading skill in order to recognize the goods or product that comes from abroad.
6. Design the amount of hours in needs to carry out the course
Instructor can estimate the amount of hours in carrying out the course. It should be negotiated with the employer. There will be an agreement between employer and instructor. Speaking, listening and reading skill may need 3 months and 2 times meeting a week. The whole meeting will be 24 times.
7. Decide how much money that instructor need to carry out the course
Instructor his self that decided How much money he need for carrying out the course. He canask his salary for each meeting ors Sometimes, it is determined per hour. So, it is depend on the Instructor
8. Design the example of communication
In making the example of communication, we can determine what will be needed in communicatin process between english costumer and sales man
This is an example of communication that may accour between English costumer and sales man.
Sales man : Hallo Mr.! How are you today?
English costumer : I’m fine. Thank you
Sales man : what can I do for you?
English costumer : oh yaah. Where can get a wedding dress?
Sales man : you can get it the ground floor
English costumer : how can I get there? Could you tell me the direction?
Sales man : ok, from here you go straight and at the corner you will find down stairs, go down the stairs and you will directly find the place.

A. Analyze students
a. What skill of english they need most.
Teacher should recognize the skill of englist that the student need most. Teacher can ask the student, why they they learn english? Student will give an excuse why they learn English. The excuse will be realted with what they need in their job. Especial for pedicab driver, they need oral and aural skill (speaking ang listening skill).
b. Background education

c. Basic of English
Beside knowing the students background of education, the other thing that should be recognized is their basic of English. This is because, there is not impossibility if the senior high graduate is more capable (in english) than college graduate or junior gradute is more capable than senior high graduate

After knowing their background education and their basic of English, it is still neccesary for teacher to hold pre-test. From the pre-test result, it will be recognized where is the proper place for each person. By and large, there are 3 basic level; basic, intermediate, graduate. Each level has three own part

Diagnose is needed for teacher to find the weakness of students in studing English. From diagnose result teacher can find the methods to over come that problem.
